CO-DIRECTOR ā€“ AMELIA STALLWORTHY

2nd Year English Literature with History of Art

Pronouns: she/her

Hi, Iā€™m Amelia and I am co-director of the gallery this year alongside the fabulous Eleanor! Our joint role requires us to pursue the gallery's aims of providing an accessible contemporary gallery to artists, the students of the university, and the wider public. Day to day our role allows us to engage with a diverse range of artists, plan innovative exhibitions, collaborate with societies to put on inclusive events, and maintain both the physical and digital space of the gallery. Eleanor and I will lead our committee and members encouraging them to fulfil their roles to the highest potential. Together we will be open with the gallery's community and allow everyone to have the freedom to have a say about the future of the gallery especially in terms of new concepts and ideas. The gallery is such a rare space that brings a room full of people from all different backgrounds to celebrate art and it is such a special experience, one that we pride ourselves on continuing to create!

The gallery has formed such a big part of my university experience from being inspired by previous committees to join as a member, becoming an events organiser alongside the amazing Nell, working to put on incredible events, co-curating 'queer!' an exhibition close to my heart, to becoming co-director with Eleanor! The gallery has shaped me as a person and has allowed me to share my passion for the arts, express myself creatively, and build a positive and welcoming space for others to do the same. The possibilities with the gallery are endless and I am so excited to facilitate a space in which people can exhibit their art for the first time, write about their favourite artist for a blogpost, and make friends who share a love for art. I strongly believe that everyone should have equal access to art, particularly young people this aligns with the fact that our gallery is the only student-run in the country. I look forward to upkeep the previous committee's love for the gallery and to continue to expand our reach to more people and show the power of art!

I hope you come and join us in our gallery! Please feel free to drop me an email: atfs500@york.ac.uk.
