The Norman Rea Gallery is excited to announce the second exhibition of our 2025/26 Committee:
“Displacement: Changing Frames”. Using the theme of displacement as a point of departure, this
exhibition deals with past and present depictions of and from displaced communities, individual and
collective reflections on the sense of place, relationships of cultural identity and memoirs of
migration. With the current escalation of forced displacement, this exhibition offers alternative
narratives of the global crisis, presenting multiple visual perspectives.
Through this exhibition we aim to question the uncompromising narratives so often pushed upon us by wider societal structures, creating space for those affected by displacement to communicate their stories within the gallery space and present the viewer with a perspective rarely seen within mainstream media.
Displacement: Changing Frames challenges visitors to think about what is present and what is absent
in the visual culture and to develop discourse on the current social and political affairs. Through the
curation we hope to reinvent spaces for the presentation and reception of feelings, forms and
fragments and the material, corporeal and generational effects of different journeys of displacement.
The opening night for Displacement: Changing Frames will take place on the 27th of November at
18:30-21:00. In addition to the exhibition, the Norman Rea will run events, further drawing upon the
themes raised within the artworks displayed.
